The short version.
- Lumora is free software, provided as it is. Use it at your own risk, and keep backups of anything important.
- What you make is yours. We only store and show it so you and the people you invite can use it.
- When you stream to YouTube, Facebook or anywhere else, their rules apply, and you are responsible for having the rights to what you show.
- Be decent: don't use Lumora to break the law, hurt people, or attack our service.
1. Agreeing to these terms
These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and the Lumora team ("Lumora," "we," "us"). They cover the Lumora live-production app, the Lumora Studio video editor, the Lumora Planner website, this website, and the online services behind them (together, the "Services").
By downloading, installing or using the Services, or by creating an account, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Services. If you use Lumora on behalf of an organization (for example, a school, congregation or company), you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
2. What Lumora is
- Lumora is a Windows app for running live events: switching cameras, showing titles and slides, recording, and streaming.
- Lumora Studio is a Windows video editor for event footage, with optional shared projects for teams.
- Lumora Planner is a website for planning an event's run of show, schedule and chat with your team.
The Services are offered free of charge. We may add, change or remove features at any time, and we may stop offering any part of the Services.
3. Accounts and approval
- You need an account to use Lumora, Lumora Studio and the Planner. One account works across all three.
- Each new account is reviewed by the Lumora team before it can be used, and we choose which apps it can use. We may approve, decline or limit any account at our discretion.
- Give us accurate information, including a real email address you can receive mail at.
- Keep your password private, and don't share your account. You are responsible for what happens under your account. We recommend turning on two-step sign-in.
- Tell us right away if you think someone else has used your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should review these terms with you.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Services to:
- break any law, or help anyone else do so;
- stream, record, upload or share content you don't have the rights to, or that infringes anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- harass, threaten, defame or exploit anyone, or share content that sexually exploits minors;
- send spam, or invite people to plans or projects who have not asked to be invited;
- try to get into accounts, plans, projects or data that aren't yours, probe or overload our servers, get around rate limits or security, or interfere with other people's use of the Services;
- send malware or harmful code through the Services, including in problem reports;
- impersonate any person or organization.
Lumora can put an audience page on the internet so guests can vote, ask questions or send messages from their phones. If you turn this on, you are responsible for how it is used at your event and for what you choose to show on screen.
5. Your content
"Your content" means anything you create or add to the Services, such as plans, cues, schedules, chat messages, comments, shared Studio projects, and problem reports.
- You own your content. We don't claim ownership of anything you make.
- You give us permission to run the Services with it. You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, copy, process and display your content only as needed to operate and improve the Services: for example, to save your plan and show it to the people you invite. This license ends when your content is deleted from our systems, except for copies in routine backups for a short time afterward.
- Sharing is your choice. When you invite someone to a plan or a Studio project, they can see it, and editors can change it. Only invite people you trust, and remove people who should no longer have access.
- Most of your work never leaves your computer. Your recordings, events, media files and video edits stay on your own computer unless you choose to share or stream them. Keep your own backups; we cannot recover files stored on your computer.
- Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them to improve Lumora without owing you anything.
We may remove content or limit access to it if we reasonably believe it breaks these terms or the law.
6. Live streaming and other services
Lumora can send your stream to platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and others, and can send live captions to YouTube. Those platforms are run by other companies, not by us.
- Your use of each platform is governed by that platform's own terms and policies. You are responsible for following them.
- You are responsible for having all the rights and permissions needed for what you stream, record and show, including music, video, images, fonts you add, and the people who appear on camera. Many places require permission or notice before recording people.
- Keep your stream keys private. We don't receive them; they stay in Lumora on your computer.
- We are not responsible for other platforms' outages, decisions (such as removing a stream or a copyright claim), or changes to their services.
Some features download free components the first time you use them (for example, speech models for on-device captions, or the program that puts the audience page on the internet). Those components come with their own licenses.
7. The software and updates
- We give you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable license to install and use Lumora and Lumora Studio, subject to these terms.
- Lumora's source code is published in a public GitHub repository. Where that repository includes a separate open-source license, that license governs your use of the source code.
- The apps check GitHub for new versions and can install updates. Some features may stop working in older versions, so please keep the apps up to date.
- The Lumora name and logo are ours. Please don't use them in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
8. No warranty
Lumora is free software provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no promises or warranties of any kind, whether stated or implied, including that the Services will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for a particular purpose, or that a stream or recording will succeed.
Live events are unpredictable. Computers crash, networks drop and platforms go down. For any event that matters, test ahead of time, have a backup plan, and record locally as well as streaming.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, the Lumora team will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, recordings, or goodwill, or for a failed or interrupted event or stream, arising from or related to your use of the Services, even if we were told such damage was possible.
Because the Services are free, our total liability for any claim relating to the Services is limited to fifty U.S. dollars ($50).
Some states don't allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law allows.
You agree to defend and hold the Lumora team harmless from claims by others that arise from your content, your streams, or your breaking these terms.
10. Ending your account
- You can stop using the Services at any time. To close your account and delete your data, contact us from the email address on your account (see the Privacy Policy).
- We may suspend, block or close an account if it breaks these terms, puts other people or the Services at risk, or has been inactive for a long time. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you first.
- If your account is closed, you can keep using the copies of your work saved on your own computer.
- Sections 5 (feedback), 8, 9, 12 and anything else that by its nature should last will still apply after your account ends.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we'll change the effective date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we'll make a reasonable effort to let you know, for example on this website or in the apps. If you keep using the Services after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where the Lumora team is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest stays in effect. If we don't enforce a part of these terms right away, we can still enforce it later. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Services.
